Heather Who?

I have been wandering around this world searching for that one thing that I am the best at. However, I found that I am not very good at just one thing, but fairly good at many...

I was a professional ballet dancer for years. I golf. I drink. I like to have really interesting conversations with people who intrigue me. I love to laugh. I have sung in grunge/rock bands, jazz trios, and acapella. I am now learning guitar so that I can jam with friends.

I was born in Portland, Oregon, went to high school in Dallas, Texas, and have lived in more than 6 states. I have travelled to Denmark, Germany, France, England and Italy. I have driven cross-country three times, with my only company a pack of smokes and some great tunes...

I love boats, which has led me to be called the ferry lady. I started a grass roots movement/non-profit to bring ferry service back to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. We are close, so close...

I am in my Senior year as a CUNY-BA student, studying "Civil Society in the Urban Landscape"... I am preparing to take the LSAT in a few weeks & will (cross my fingers) be going to law school next fall. (That, or there is always pole dancing).

So, why Women and Media??

Why not! I have been in & out of the media with my nonprofit, and have been fascinated about women (especially women with power) are treated by the media. I love stories, and I wish there were more stories of strong women throughout the media that young girls had to look up to. I am an idealist, and stubborn. I was raised to do anything a boy can do; I shot guns before I wore a training bra.

I am constantly evolving, and this course will be yet more fuel to stoke the flames of my imagination. Giddy up!
