Sunina Samantha Khargie

Who am I in the world of Media? I'm a student of the Arts torn between Media & Film. It all started in High School when I discovered my love for Communications, but was unsure of which path to take. All I knew was that I enjoyed speaking in front of groups of people, giving speeches, and doing the weather report for the morning announcements. I first attended Brooklyn College and declared Media Studies as my major. Then I decided I wanted to attend Hunter College instead and transferred to BMCC for two semesters. They had a different name or program altogether for my interest. A little unsure I ended up declaring VAT (Video & Arts Technology) as my major.
When I finally transferred to Hunter I was torn because the Media & Film programs were separate majors of which you're not allowed to double major or minor in either or. All the courses I had taken at Brooklyn College & BMCC transferred over as Media credits. The problem was that having the experience of television production at BMCC sparked my interest in the creation of film. I was mesmerized by all the work that goes into just one frame, and all the people behind the scenes that make this possible.

One graduation and two transfers later here I am. I decided to major in Film and still take some Media courses as electives since I couldn't minor in it. It was a hard decision to make and I had to carefully review all the courses offered by both departments. To help make my decision I attended the Majors meeting for the Film & Media Department. In the end I chose Film, because they offered more courses I was interested in than Media which seemed to focus more on journalism. I believe both fields are connected and go hand in hand, so either ways I'm winning!

  1. I think you made the right choice in choosing film. The level of knowledge gained by this major will help you soar into your career wonderfully. Networking also goes hand in hand with the film industry so the fact that you enjoy speaking in front of large groups of people and having such a outgoing personality definitely helps. Keep up the good work - Jason I ;)

  2. I too believe you made a great choice, though a hard one. It seems that you love what goes into film and if you do what you love, then you can only do better in it. I hope you keep following your heart and become fabulously succesful in your own way!
