Women's eNews

After doing a little bit of research, I found quite a few websites that were women oriented, ie, by or for women. A specific one that I found to be substantial is Women's eNews. This news website is designed to cover women's issues, among other news stories. Launched in 2000, Women's eNews is a nonprofit, internet-based news source, with a special focus on news that might be of concern to women and their allies. It is a daily news service, and is fully supported by its readers, foundations, events, and resale of its contents.

To quote their mission statement:

"Women's eNews is the definitive source of substantive news--unavailable anywhere else--covering issues of particular concern to women and providing women's perspectives on public policy. It enhances women's ability to define their own lives and to participate fully in every sector of human endeavor."

Women's eNews was formed out of a discussion panel conceived and funded by the Barbara Lee Family Foundation and hosted by the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund. Research was done to yield the results that a sunstantial news source was needed that would cover things of concern to women, and the chance for women's voices to be heard through journalism. In 2002, NOW Legal Defense deemed the website able to stand on its own legs, thus becoming independent. In April 2003, Women's eNews launched their Arabic website, when they realized that many of their readers were women in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other Arabic-speaking countries in the Middle East. This website can be found at:
