Women’s Net is a South African feminist nongovernmental organization that advocates gender equality and promotes the use of information Communication technologies. The website is by women, for women, and has a focus in South African content. The Women’s Net was launched in March 1998, as a result of work done in 1997 by women and gender activist set out to create a website where gender issues could be brought to light. Women’s Net was officially launched in CapeTown, Johannesburg, and Durban. From 1998 until October 2002, Women’s Net was operated as a project of SANGONE T. Women’s Net was granted approval by SANGONE T as an independent organization.
Women’s Net has successfully implemented projects to support the Internet Communication Technologies to help women unite and empower them to use their voices. The website is recognized for creating the first online space for South African women. It launched A Girl’s Net programme to encourage girl’s involvement with technology. Women’s Net has participated in the United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women and have participated in research for the participation of women in information technologies in South Africa as researchers and writers. The organization has collaborated with Agenda Feminist Media. The organization is growing and working on encouraging individuals to participate globally on making advancement for women in South Africa. The experiences of women endured in the workforce, rural areas, and underdeveloped countries deserve its importance. Organizations such as Women’s Net endorse women’s rights and encourage gender activist, women, and online readers to join in the global approach and vision of Women’s Net.
The Website presents information on important social issues such as HIV Awareness, violence against women, Sex and education. The Website contains a blog where women share their stories, experiences, and express their opinions. The website is a useful medium to bring women together all over the world to form a collective force that will dedicate to bring awareness to gender inequality.
